Visualize plan and explain plan

Hello Gurus,

I need to understand the use of Visual Plan and Explain plan.

1) How to read them?

2) Any further system tables which can be used

3) Step by Step procedure to understand

4) Need to understand thoroughly and master in that so that I can increase the performance of my components, sql-scripts, procedures.
